Darrel Johansen's black Serge
This is Darrel Johansen's custom black Serge. Made in the early 1980s, it is a third generation instrument. It is unique in that it uses a negative of the regular graphics, resulting in the silver on black coloration.
When built it featured some customization, including digital interface wiring intended to connected to a computer via a multi-pin connector on the rear. Banana jacks along the left and right edges of each panel (now blanked off) provided connections to and from the computer.
In 1997 Darrel donated it to California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, where it still is, today.
